Sony never really had a forward-thinking approach regarding PC gaming, but the company is slowly but surely changing its stance. On Windows 10 and Windows 11, the Xbox app also lets Xbox Game Pass subscribers access PC Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming Microsoft went a step further by adding cross-buy, cross-play, and cross-save functionality for some of its Xbox-exclusive games that ship on both consoles and PC. In recent years, the biggest video games publishers including Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard, and Rockstar Games have all launched their own PC game launcher. And Sony may not want to give Steam and the Epic Games Store a piece of that pie indefinitely. However, with recent PlayStation exclusive games often selling more than 10 million copies just on PlayStation consoles, the sales potential for these games on PC is massive. So far, Sony has been releasing PC ports of its PlayStation-exclusive games on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This could eventually allow PC gamers to connect their PSN account on PlayStation games on PC and unlock some in-game bonuses. The game files, which have been viewed by VGC, also suggest that Sony is also working on a PlayStation Network integration for its PC games.
As reported by VGC yesterday, references to a “PlayStation PC launcher” have been found in the files of the just-released PC version of Marvel’s Spiderman Remastered. As Sony has finally started releasing more of its PlayStation exclusive games on PC, the company could now be planning to release its own PC game launcher.
